Pienza, in a dominant position over the Val d'Orcia, birthplace of Pope Pio II, it is a precious example of a Renaissance town. Pope Pio II decided to transform his birthplace town in an ideal town following the renaissance town planning utopia. The ancient Corsignano was then called Pienza, that is to say town of Pio. From its city walls it is possible to admire the amazing view of the "Crete Senesi" and of Monte Amiata. In the neighbourhood Bagno Vignoni, ancient thermal village.
Lucignano, has a particular elliptical shape, and around its city walls streets develop with concentric movement, giving the idea of a pleasant labyrinth. This particular shape takes its origins from the original roman castrum. The Museo Comunale and San Francesco preserve masterpieces of great value (Albero della Vita).
Montepulciano, medieval town is surrounded by city walls and stands out on a hill which dominates with its 605 mt. the Valdichiana and the Val d'Orcia. Besides the artistic beauties (Piazza Grande, Via del Corso, Basilica di San Biagio), the tourist is struck by the amazing view which reaches the region Umbria and Lake Trasimeno. Montefollonico, a characteristic small town, is 10 km far from Montepulciano.
